Launched on the 23rd of February 2007, the Microsoft QUT eResearch Centre is a joint venture between Microsoft Research, Redmond, the Queensland University of Technology and the Queensland Government is the only one of its kind in Australia and one of only a dozen worldwide.

Research in the centre covers four themes: Sensor Networks, Bioinformatics, Parallelism and Mobile Computing.

Funding is spread over three years:

Located in Margaret St, Brisbane, MQUTeR will leverage on, and advance QUT's real-world research in data visualisation, machine learning, collaborative systems and programming languages. This will translate to advances in the health and well-being for the entire community.
